It also provides a larger payload and greater range, giving XCub a much wider mission profile compared to any other aircraft in this class. It's a runaway hit and selling quickly, and it has garnered rave reviews from the industry. The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) calls the XCub "A modern, highly refined adventure machine that takes the Super Cub line as far as it can logically go," and Plane and Pilot magazine said, "We flew it a month ago and were blown away by it."

You will ensure timeliness, accuracy, and that reported results comply with GAAP.

Role Details

The teams work north and south of the airport where we take an all hands on deck approach to operations and building and delivering planes. This is an exciting time to join us. We recently released a new plane and have a robust order backlog. We are expecting an outstanding 2018.

The Accounting team works on the North side where you’ll have an office upstairs. This is a hands-on, tactical position where you will have projects and tasks requiring hands-on execution, review and presentation.

Specifically, you will:
  1. Oversee, and hold responsibility for, all accounting transactional activities including AP/AR/payroll, ensure correct GL coding
  2. Direct supervision and management of accounting staff
  3. Maintain cash account balances and provide cash forecasting
  4. Provide accurate COGS as a basis for analyzing profitability and strategic product line decisions  Quick question for you - click here

More Good Reasons

Not just a job . . . a way of life
We are passionate about what we do, and we'll expect you to embrace that passion. Just as we promise our customers "Adventure Multiplied®," we are committed to bringing every employee on the adventure of developing and manufacturing the best aircraft available. As Controller, you will be a critical and expanding role in our adventure.

Great environment
There are two aviation manufacturers in Washington, and we're NOT the big one. We're proud of our close-knit culture and the large number of long-tenured employees at CubCrafters. The culture is contagious: we simply love to design, build and fly great light sport aircraft. The atmosphere is upbeat and energetic.

Team culture
You'll also enjoy the culture of your team with a mix of newer and long-tenured members. You will have the chance to mentor, while also having a source of support while you're learning your role.

Always moving upwards
We're constantly working to be the best, and earning industry recognition for it. For example, CubCrafters was featured in the December 2015 issue of Plane & Pilot magazine. After carefully testing our Carbon Cub EX-2 amateur-built kit, the editors declared it "easier to fly and easier to build," and praised the "innovative design." If you'd like to read the article, you can download a PDF here. Clicking on this link will open a new browser window, but be sure to come back to submit your resume!

Get into the sky
Nothing is quite so motivating as climbing into the cockpit of the planes you helped produce, and soaring past the slopes of Mt. Rainier or coasting above the trees that line the Columbia River. We maintain a Sport Cub exclusively for the use of our employees, who can reserve and fly it for a subsidized aircraft rental rate.

Pictured above: CubCrafters' state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities help ensure consistent high quality and efficiency. Below: We have been exploring limits of the Light Sport category since our inception. The Carbon Cub SS, for example, can land and take off in patches that many thought were accessible only to helicopters and hikers. And it does it with the grace, confidence and control that are Cub hallmarks.

Keys to Success

The first year you will be consumed by learning the systems and your responsibilities, getting processes down along with every day and ongoing accountabilities. Once you understand our systems, you can work to identify and suggest areas of improvement. For example, you may recommend the hiring of an assistant controller and/or ways to proactively improve one or more processes in order to manage increased product demand.

Additional success factors include:
  • A proactive approach to your work and problem solving
  • A strong sense of urgency
  • The ability to consistently meet deadlines, such as month-end close
  • A positive, professional attitude
  • Honesty, integrity, and transparency
  • A clear and cohesive communication style

About Yakima

We love the Yakima Valley, but we also recognize that it isn't for everybody. First, here are some of the reasons we wouldn't live anywhere else:
  • 290 days of sunshine a year and wide open blue skies; we get some snow in the winter, and summer temperatures average in the high 80s.
  • More than 100 award-winning wineries.
  • Outdoor sports, from snowmobiling to white water rafting, and from hunting to fly-fishing.
  • Farm fresh local produce like apples, peaches and cherries -- some farms let you pick your own.
  • Berries, berries, berries.
  • The annual Fresh Hop Ale Fest (we grow most of America's hops right here).
  • A cost of living, including housing, that is considerably lower than on the coast, and below the national average.
  • No traffic!
On the other hand, if you need a steady dose of urban energy, Yakima probably isn't the place for you. The city of Yakima has more than 90,000 residents and the metro area is almost 250,000 strong. Valley Mall, in nearby Union Gap, features a wide array of national retailers. We're not a small town, but we're not Seattle. For an occasional dose of urban culture, though, Seattle is just over two hours away.

If we determine that you are a strong candidate, we'll invite you to visit Yakima and get a feel for the lifestyle here. Meanwhile, for a little more information, visit Yakima Valley Tourism. Clicking on this link will open a new browser window, but be sure to come back to submit your resume!

About Us

Adventure Included

We here at CubCrafters are natural explorers. We love what we do. From the beginning, what distinguished our founder's vision was his ability to recognize the potential performance that he believed had never been fully developed in the Super Cub. An innovative tinkerer as well as an accomplished airframe and power plant mechanic, Jim was constantly on the lookout for interesting modifications and refinements. Over the next two decades, this ambition evolved to the stage where CubCrafters was no longer in the modification business so much as it was building new airplanes - airplanes greatly improved from the original Super Cub.

CubCrafters offers three all new, ready-to-fly aircraft plus two versions of its state-of-the-art aircraft kit. In the LSA category the Sport Cub S2 is a thoroughly updated redesign of the classic airplane that inspired the light sport category. The Carbon Cub SS is a thoroughly updated redesign of the classic airplane that inspired the light sport category with 180 horsepower available for takeoff and climb, making it the most powerful LSA aircraft in production. CubCrafters also offers the Carbon Cub EX-2, the lightest, most complete and best engineered Cub kit available, and the innovative new FX builder assist program. The newly introduced Xcub has reset the performance bar in Certified Utility class aircraft and won widespread industry acclaim from the moment it launched in 2016. The legacy Top Cub boasts a useful load of over 1000 pounds, making it among the ultimate evolution of the classic Piper Super Cub.

CubCrafters operates in a modern 72,000 square foot facility on the edge of McAllister Field Airport in Yakima, Washington. We hold an FAA Production Certificate to manufacture duplicate products of approved designs, such as the Top Cub. We are also the only manufacturer in America building Light Sport Aircraft in an FAA Certified facility.

Yakima is an idyllic spot for flying and testing our planes: big skies, punctuated on the Western horizon by the always snow-capped peaks of the Cascade mountain range. 290 days of sunshine each year. The nearby countryside dotted with wineries, orchards and rangeland. Inside our buildings, over 130 dedicated and highly skilled people come together to build some of the most innovative and exciting aircraft available. The process is a unique combination of time-tested handcrafting, complimented with the latest in computer-aided design and fabrication.

In many ways, this is every enthusiast's dream workshop. Spotless. Organized. Ideally configured to optimize the process of building an airplane to the highest levels of precision. Proven principles of lean manufacturing ensure that there is no outdated inventory and that all parts and procedures are under constant scrutiny for possible improvement.

Unlike many manufacturing facilities, the CubCrafters factory houses all departments involved with the design, support and sales of our airplanes. This close proximity results not only in operational efficiencies, but also in a tangible sense of teamwork and shared purpose that is at the very core of our business. It is an indispensable part of what makes a CubCrafters airplane so special.
